Ewao Kagoshima: Azure Deep B

Azure Deep B portrays life both under and atop the ocean. Like many of Kagoshima’s paintings, the idea of sea and sky appear to be ambiguous, overlapping and continuous, represented by a deep blue. Moonlight from above shines down on a monolith resembling a jellyfish or mushroom, while smaller jellyfish-comets float above. Behind a rocky shore, a human girue stands alone in a rowboat. Another human is either standing atop or inside the structure, and two less clear but still apparent humans lie together on top of the structure. This painting is paired with “Azure Deep A.”
